Round 1 Opens Girls Independent Schools Match of the Round Review

Pymble Ladies College vs Loreto

It was a very wet and humid Saturday afternoon at Pymble Ladies College for the Round 1 matchup between Pymble and Loreto. It’s a rare occasion in Sydney when sport is permitted in wet conditions and the girls took full advantage of their game going ahead and revelled in every moment of it.

It was a tight first quarter with both schools trying to adjust to the conditions. Pymble came out of the first quarter break and lifted in their tackle pressure and amended their tactics which allowed them to get the ball moving more consistently. This was from their midfield pressure lead by Zara Tullipan who got the first goal from a forward stoppage. Ruby Nicholas also made huge contributions and was constantly getting herself into good position behind the play.

Halftime score was Pymble 1.3.9 leading Loreto 0.0.0.

The third quarter mirrored the second having a lot of ball work won on the ground and intercept marks from both teams making it hard to score points.
Loreto’s Mia Hartley was key in stopping Pymble’s movement forward all game and was one of Loreto’s best players on the day.
Loreto’s Emma Wilkinson was also key in winning the ball on the ground and clean hands out the back. Pymble were able to get another goal in a tightly fought third quarter and held a 15 point lead going into the last quarter.
The weather started to calm down and it allowed for the showcase of the skills from both sides. Ball movement was quick and fast from end to end and strong tackles stuck. Natasha Newham from Pymble was key throughout the game with her great intercept marks and elite kicking while transitioning the ball forward. It was a draw in the last quarter with both schools scoring a behind each.

Final Score: Pymble Ladies College 2.4.16 beat Loreto 0.1.1
